I headed up to Ventura to do some kelp and eel-free grass perching. If you haven't tried perching yet, this can be a blast and a nice break from lugging the yak and gear around especially when there's only 3-4 hours to spare.

I caught several perch the first 2 hours but as the tide got lower, the bite got slower. Closer to high tide usually seems to be the ticket. All caught on motor oil/gold flake grubs. Fising the light gear from shore also allows me the opportunity to hang out with my little girls who are still to young for the yak. Throw a couple of keepers in a bucket filled with saltwater and you've got an instant marine exhibit.
