: thats funny you mentioned to have my buddy tow me in. We actually tried that. We tied our kayaks together and I actually put my pole between my legs and we both tried to paddle in. The shark was not havin it. When he ran our kayaks would slam together and we could just not make any progress. When the shark was headed away from shore and my buddy was paddling in (kayaks attached) my drag just would keep going. I almost ran out of line trying that (because we were headed in and he was headed out the only give was the drag.) Anyway I launched in the Santa Barbara Area (not at any beach or harbor just a remote location.) If you are ever in the area send me an email @ sales@fireflyimports.com and we could try it out.: test: Great story. Where did you guys launch from? Also, if that shark was that big it sounds like it was a wise move to cut it off even though it might have been some kind of record. Maybe next time have your buddy tow you to shore to finish the fight or get your hands on a bang stick. I sure would think twice about using a flying gaff and just trying to hold on but what about a flying gaff tied off to a barrel like in jaws (ha ha). What does Rhino say???

I use a round 9" float nick named a Rhyno Balz, with 2, 30' of 3/8" poly rope attached to the float. Once a big shark is good and tired, tie off one of the ropes to the tail of the shark,(easier said than done), and cut of the rod line, careful of the lure if its in the tail you have to remove it or else.2nd rope is tied off on my Rhynobar or any solid place you can tie it off to. I then let the float support the shark while I prepare the deck area for loading. When it is time to dispatch a large shark use caution as they can light up and go nuts, a gaff in the gills followed by a knife to the heart, and then let the shark bleed a little before attempting to load it on the yak. That is the best case senario, even better is call me for a little guided assistence, and take the worry out of you wrestling with a large shark. Looks like they are finally moving back in, good news at last! The shark with the hole in its head was a finish gaff hole used to load the shark onto the yak. TL Rhino
