Ling are a BLAST to land, if not a pain to hook up. We've thrown the entire tackle box at them before with nary a strike, and other times you cannot keep them off. My personal best was landed on a stiff bay rod with 15 lb. test. Damn thing just wanted to dive over and over and over and over and over again. Thirty minutes later when I was about to pass out, a 48 incher rolled at the swim platform. Never heard of one hopping and jumping, though. Musta been a hoot!
