I am having absolutely no luck keeping my TD mounted securely. Well actually it is secure, it just doesn't work. I've read all the posts, tried everything. Someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong.
The 1st time I used 5200 and let sit for 10 days before trying it out. Didn't work. I pried the TD loose and the 5200 had not even hardened up under the TD. It was still moist to the touch. Cleaned off hull and TD and 2nd time I used plain old clear silicone which worked but didn't last. It was working when I put my yak away last fall but not when I brought it out this spring. Pried it off again, cleaned TD and hull of all foreign matter and used Marine Goop. Buttered the stuff on to avoid bubbles and only put a real thin coat, maybe 1/4 inch, before twisting down and adding weight. It worked so well the 1st time out I could watch my leadhead go from the surface to the bottom in 60 feet of water. Next time out it wouldn't even lock on the bottom. I've pried it off again and will probably try Goop again. What am I doing wrong? I'm mounting right behind the front scuppers on my navigator. Anybody else have similar problems and find a workable solution? I don't want an external mount, I want to continue with the shoot-thru-hull method. I have a Garmin 160 blue FF.
TIA & TL
