Jas, I believe you are the one with the wahoo from the yak, right? I learned a lot from the posts that you and other people put up on boards over the last couple of years. I looked up the words "wahoo from a kayak" or " wahoo kayak" something like that this summer, (wondering if anyone had ever done that and hoping that if no one had, maybe I could do it!) as a keyword search or maybe an image search on google, and a picture of, I think, you came up with a wahoo on a rocky shoreline in Hawaii, if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for the congrats, but I'd like to hear THAT story! That must have been an experience. I'd like to hear what the reel sounded like when that thing first hit. Maybe something like a skillsaw cutting into granite! The wahoo were hitting big time in the spring at Rancho and all over the East Cape and I was picturing that hooking up with one of those on a yak could result in a really serious injury, with their nasty teeth and speed and all. I pictured nasty slashed forarms resulting from a mishap when gaffing, etc, so I kind of wished for that and dreaded that at the same time. I talked to Santos, the panguero who was driving the panga when that fella got the 115 # wahoo this spring there, and he shrugged it off, acting like it was no different than any other fish, but I can't imagine that would be an easy fish to land, or any one of some size on a yak. I mean, they outfit the leaders of those marauders with wire that they use to lock bikes up with! Plus they chew through 100 # test leaders no problem. So let's hear about that, too!
Take care,
Jon
