We met at Leo, but the wind was moving enough to motivate us to go to Dan Blocker and try for some halibut.

A rare mid week launch for me, but it is my 40th birthday so I took the day off.

We launched into a nice size set that hit me twice over the bow and the last one in the chest
I realized about 15 minutes later that about 3 to 4 gallons of water got in through the front hatch and I think that I had not aligned the hatch properly before launching. I was able to get rid of the flooding with my Scotty bilge pump I won at Jerry's Derby last year. The pump is fast and always in the hull on any trip. Never had to use it till today. The extra water did not make me unstable, but it did slow me down.

I'd like to take a few more waves in my lap to see what went wrong. This was my first surf launch in my new Pro Explorer, so it is too early to tell what happened. I didn't take in any more water the rest of the day even when landing.

Tons of bait and bait balls. Green macs and smelt zillas. I even picked up a shiner perch. Jason had several blacksmith perch. The bass were not cooperating. Tons of marks on the fish finder but no takers. I had one good pick up, but I was not running a trap rig and lost a good halibut. I picked up a shallow water rock fish, but it was Jason who nabbed two legal halibut the last going 36 inches.

I got to try out my bait tank and everything went okay except I only got 4 hours on the battery. the bait tank did not compromise stability, my surf launch and it did not slow me down.

Thanks Jason. I had fun. One last thing, I sure miss wearing my breathable waders. I won't know if I'll ever get the nerve to wear them on a surf launch, but it is far more comfortable than the wetsuit and nylon sweatpants.
