In the surf I use a pile of junk shakespeare spinning reel with 6lb test on a pile of junk shakespesre 5' 12 lb bass pole (this is also my bait pole for the kayak). I use the swivle method for the carolina rig with any of the weights on that page. I use 4 lb p-line flourocarbon leader about 18" long. Trolling from the kayak, you can use the 1/2 or 3/8 egg sinker. In the surf I go a little heavier.

P.S. Sport's Chalet sells those ghost flies in a larger size and in a bonito pattern as well.
