It's no Scupper Pro, but it's no Cobra Fish n Dive either. I'm 6'2" (195lb) and I still have a few inches until I reach the end of the footwell. A buddy of mine only weighs about 150lb, but finds the kayak easy to paddle (though I should qualify he's a newbie and doesn't have experience on anything else).
I found that I could still paddle good distances when I wanted to. I haven't found a day yet where I said, "gosh, if only I had my Scupper I could have made it to the next kelp bed, beach, etc;" You can't get a Scupper experience out of the Pro but you don't have to paddle a lunker to get stability. BTW, it's no miracle on a kayak like this, but I can stand up in it.
As far as the hatch goes, check out some of the pictures they have up at their site. They have a guy that gets into the hatch, lies down inside the yak while another guy paddles it, lol.
