selftappers and glue r not sufficient. u'd b surprised @ how much pressure is applied to the base with just the weight of the rod. thats y they gave u the plate. if u have a hatch that isn't cut in, enter thru there and u can drop a cover on it. if u've got the skills u can cut it somewhere that wont get pressure otherwise and plasti-weld it back together. best bet is probably to find a shop and pay them the $ to do it right the first time. good luck
