Torrey Pines is the best place IMO for getting them. Carlsbad right at Tamarack and farther north is a fine place too. Right off shore. They absolutely love surf perch, live. I have eaten my share and really I think they don't taste all that great, unless put into a ceviche that my wife makes. For awhile I convinced myself they were tasty but i think I was kidding myself. My friend seems to have a knack for them, his best was 33 #.
