: : : I need some input as to if I will be able to handle/control the Extreme with my 5' 8, 165lbs frame. Any opinions? Do you think Pro Explorer is a better fit? Thanks. Two years ago, a friend of mine bought the ProExplorer (before the Extreme came on the market). He just recently bought the Extreme and likes it much better than the ProExplorer. He is 5'7" and weighs about 165#. He doesn't have any trouble with the Ex.I have the Extreme and loading it by myself is easy BECAUSE I use a Yakima boat loader. I would suggest you check into the boat loader. My opinion would be to go with the Ex hands down. It's a much faster boat, very stable, comfortable and has lots of underdeck storage.Mary,I agree that it can work for people other than big guys/gals. But it's not something I would make a blind recomendation on. I haven't met seasalt. I'm glad it worked out for your friend. Boat loaders and custom built carts and trailers are certainly good options to help make it work. I'm a little more careful and concerned about what recommendations I make. Seasalt, visit one of their locations and see how well you can handle one of the boats in and out of the water. I have one client right now waiting until he gets a trailer built before taking his out. Another one of my clients is still trying to figure out how to hoist his extreme on his truck. They're one of my sponsors and hope they make as many sales as possible but the boat isn't "hands down" for everyone. jas

Hi Jas,

You have a couple of good points. First, both I and my friend have cars, not trucks. I imagine a truck would make it more difficult to hoist a yak onto unless one could use the truck bed (of course that depends on the length of the kayak). The other point, that Seasalt try the Ex out first is excellent. Before I got my first yak, I demoed a whole bunch of them.

Speaking of trailers, Mark Pierpoint has a very cool one.

Best,

Mary
