Lots of ling here, albeit smallish ones. I've caught legals in 100' +/- off of the edges of the kelp. Bear in mind that there is a restriction for waters 120' +...no bottom fish may be kept in depths greater than 120, nor may you fish for ANY species in water >than 120 with a bottom (rock) fish on board your vessel. They are eating jigs bounced off the bottom and any bait you drop down. Paddle out to 100' and look for meter marks on the bottom. If no meter paddle out to the bull kelp and turn north a hundred yards or so to start your drift. Don't get too far from the kelp as you may enter water too deep.
