: Hello all! This is my first time posting on this forum. I am a long time salt water fisherman. But I recently bought a new tarpon for some Northern California fishing adventures. Is their any N.Cal folks that may have some input on Tomales bay kayak fishing?

That being said for just about every ocean launch location. Especially here tides can be down right hard to paddle against, much like padling up a fast moving river. Time your paddle around the tides. Also check with Fish and Game for health warnings about fin fish taken out of this water. If you exit the bay and head south, there is a reecurring shark attack location off Bird Rock, but not on a kayak, only ab divers. The fish to target would be Halibut and the mixed rock fish bag. Also lots of smaller sharks, smooth hounds, browns , lemons, seven gill, leopards, shovle, etc. I did a few clinics up there, we mostly got rockfish and sharks in the smaller variety. I hear Salmon can be good, and also a chance at Steelhead or Silvers( must release those last two). Was hoping for a local perspective but there is mine. We had success with most swim baits, but a local tackle shop suggested Berkley Power Worms in Black, the biggest available, I tried em and only had knock downs. Fresh frozen anchovies or cut squid will work here too. Great sceanery, and dont forget to try around Hog Island, flats will also hold the halibut and others. TL Rhino
