San Francisco Bay area is a great area for kayak fishing. You have the bay itself in the winter where you can get sturgeon, stripers and sharks. There is also smaller fish, like perch and flounder.

I prefer the spring and summer fishing in the ocean, though. Salmon season startes in May or so and lasts till November and Salmon are great fighters and the best eating. There is also california halibut which is a fun fish to catch and will wear your arm out. There is also the bottom fishing for rock cod and also skin diving for abalone.

There are lots of launch sites, most any beach, but it depends on weather conditions. The surf can be brutal if the weather pushes up a big swell, but that is why spring and summer are good ocean yak fishing times, because the SW winter winds push up the surf and the NW summer winds don't usually cause a large enough swell to stop you form going out.

: : I am moving to SF and can't find any useful info on the species up there and the type of fishing to expect. Or even if people yak fish in that cold water.Any info would be a big help. Thanks in AdvanceJErmani am also north of san francisco and if your ever up for some fishing let me know i would love to meet up with some other yakers and do some ocean fishing im in land from the ocean in a small town called chico cali just let me know whats going on and i will try and be there=)
