I've never had any problem with tank straps. Matter of fact, I'm going to rivet another set onto my tank well this weekend. I love them and find them extremely useful when fishing from a yak. Big fish that jump around in the tank well can be fastened like a seatbelt. Your "stuff (gear, odds and ends) can be held down by straps, you can attach stringers and retractors to them.

The only thing I've seen that I've had to pay close attention to is keeping the line away from are the handles (use a bungee to keep those up) or having to watch your fishing line in relation to a "dead stick" in a rod holder. The fish may turn around your yak so you'll have to raise the tip of the rod you're holding over the tip of the rod in the holder. Those have been my only line hang ups.
