: Hi, I'm new to this site but have been reading all the useful information for couple weeks. I'm in the market for a kayak and has narrowed my choices to the pro-explorer and extreme. I will be fishing from Chesapeake bay in Maryland for Rockfish, trout, flounder, spot, croaker and etc... Any suggestions on why I would dish out 100 more dollars for the Extreme? I'm about 5 feet 8 inches and weight 165lbs. Thanks for the help!

If you're looking for more touring style attibutes such as better glide and speed, without compromising stability....then it's worth it. I also like the adjustable footrests. The Pro has been a great boat for me but I think I'll be taking the eXtreme out more now that I've grown fonder of the larger kayak fishing platform. The only negative I can see when you place it up against the Pro Explorer is that it's been a little tougher for me to get it off and on the racks of my Honda Accord. After developing a new loading technique, it's been a sinch. I use to throw most of my yaks right on. Now I put the bow on the rear rack with the stern resting on the ground. I grab the stern handle, then I lift and push the kayak in to position. I can toss it up no problem before I fish and paddle for the day. After a full day on the water, I go end to end when it comes to throwing it on the racks.

Btw, one other distinct difference is that the eXtreme has a foam core.
