Dana Point would be a great choice. Though I have caught some very nice fish inside the harbor (halibut and WSB) I would recommend a tournament format were you can fish anywhere as long as you can paddle back in time for the weigh-in supported by a signed " I caught this… from my kayak…today…" statement.

This would also be a great idea. There are a number of excellent locations for a kayak fishing tournament. This type of tournament would tend to attract diehard kayak fisherman. Most of the locations would be remote, participants would need to camp, the pre tournament planning/preparation would need to include the purchase of the necessary permits (boat, fishing and tourist) and insurance for your vehicle. Time of the year is also a consideration. June-October is potentially too hot on the Sea of Cortez and surrounding dessert (safety/heatstroke considerations). November-March are Chubasco months on the Sea of Cortez. The tournament participants may end sitting on the beach waiting for the wind to stop blowing if the tournament is planned during those months. These issues aside Baja is a kayak anglers dream and would be a great location for a tournament.
