I actually hooked up. Unfortunately, my learning curve got in the way. The bait from the bait barge was pretty micro, so I thought I would try to catch some spanish macs. I ended up catching one nice 7" Sardine. With that, I followed Eagles Eye's suggestion to slow trolling for yellowtail with no wieght and about 20' back. I started pretty close to the red buoy and headed straight out. After about thirty feet or so of paddling, I hear a huge splash. I looked back and a decent sized yellow is harrassing my bait, then boom he takes it. In the past, I have had some white sea bass take the bait and drop it while the clicker is on and taking the clicker off while they run has been successful in getting them to take it. So I grabbed the rod (fish is still running), put thumb lightly on the reel and turn the clicker off to let him run just a bit more. In that one brilliant move, I caused a small birds nest. And of course when the line started to pull out, SNAP! 25 lb line like it was nothing. And I followed with an assortment of curse words to which a private boater nearby who happened to seen my moment of fishing expertise joined in.

Now that's two big fish in two trips that I have lost to bonehead mistakes. I feel like a one man conservation team. The fish are safe as long as I on the job!
