: First of all, GREAT job on the rigged kayaks section, Jas. Secondly, to Oceanhunter, is the tacklebox in the pic attatched to the boat, and if so, how? Also, where can I find the compass, and how did you install it? I like the use of retractors. Very clever.

Thanks for the support......
I'm not sure if Tommy/Oceanhunter screwed or glued it. I think it's a Plano hinged folding tackle box. Not sure what you callm', but it does open up like the larger tackle boxes; 2 trays open up and out......I might get one and glue a cutting board to the top for cutting bait.

If you go to Ritchie's web site, and screen through a million different compasses, you'll see the console style or flush mount compasses. For some reason, every kayak parts and accessory stores, outlets, outfitters, etc; only sell the  large portable bubble or permanent bubble units. These huge bubbles are not for me. The console mount sits about flat against any surface you mount it on. It is a very, very accurate compass. It also comes with cables for wiring the built in light. I actually did the whole toggle switch rigging off of my fish finder battery just so I can have control over that fancy pancy compass light. I've never had to use it, but if the White Sea Bass keep up their presence here, I may do a few dark launches. But I'll have headlamps so it's a mute point.
I purchased the compass at a place not too far from where I live called Anchor Marine. I think it was about $36. They recommend you mounting it at a certain angle (somewhere in between 45 and 90 degrees I think). That's why I mounted mine in my footwell. Tommy mounted his w/ "0" angle, sitting flat right in front of his seat well. We've checked it a bunch of times and it is still accurate there(though the display is a little smaller there because of the position it floats).
Retractors are keyski!!! I love'm. Make sure to get the dive retractors since they hold up better to saltwater (still rinse them and the cable after use).
