I haul a 14'+ Hobie Miriage Tandem in the bed of my truck sticking out the back, but I have a "bed Extender" to support the kayak. The extender is a two piece steel assembly. One piece is kind of L shaped and is a little over 4' long, with the long piece sticking into my hitch receiver, and the short L sticking up about about 1 foot high. Onto this fits a "T" bar about 4 ft wide. The short L sticking up, and the T bar have holes into which you place a hitch pin to adujst the height.
