The actual length of anything protruding from the rear of your vehicle farther than 18" requires a red flag. I get mine free in front of Home Depot.

: It is my understanding of the law to be that anything that extends more than 4' from the bed of a truck requires a Red Flag to be attached to the end of it to increase visibility of the object to other drivers. As far as a length Maximum... It seems to be that as long as a load is "Secure and does not obstruct the view of the brake lights and turn signals or in anyway impeed the safety of the carrying vehicle in anyway... it is legal. You might ask Ted for verification of this as he has scary knowledge of weird stuff. All I can say is that the 15' eXtreme sure does get some glances when I have it tied to the racks on my new VW Beetle. 15' Yak... 13' Car. LOL. Prepare for Take off Captain, We have Clearance Clarence.Ric
