fish finder

I have been shopping for a fish finder for my yak and am having trouble with all of the choices what would work better a portable model or a standard model. I will be purchasing a new kayak in September and would be switching between the two depending on my needs I know it all boils down to personnal choice but I would appreciate any advice.
