Headed up to Big Sur last week in search of scenic vistas, breathless landscape and Lingzilla. I was not dissappointed.

Our campsite was on a bluff over looking a 7 mile stretch of Big Sur Coastline. I was concerned about the wind but as luck would have it, there was very little wind. It never blew out either. You could have launched at 2pm and only would have encountered 10 maybe 15 knot winds on the outside. The view was amazing!!!

Fishing was a little slow. Water vis around the kelp was 1-3 ft. Though each day I still managed to catch a few Reds, Coppers and Lings. Unfortunatly, there was no sign of Lingzilla. I didn't catch one Ling over 30". Though the last day I did catch my largest Cabezon. When I brought the fish to color, it was so big at first glance I thought it was a just legal Lingcod on steroids. Since the previous Ling had a lot of orange in it, I was assuming it was more of the same. I was stoked when I realized that it was a Cabezon. I gaffed it, hoping for somewhere around the cheek or mouth. I ended up with a perfect (lucky, unintentional) gaf to the brain. Fish turned off like a light, lol. The fish measured 23"....my largest Cabezon.

Each night we set up a taco table. The last night we had a Ling kabob BBQ.

This trip was amazing. I don't know if I'll ever find a weather window in Big Sur like that one again. We witnessed 3 perfect sunsets. More often then not, this place is blowing pretty good. If it's not blowing, the fog is usually pretty thick. Almost no wind and even less fog the entire trip. Everyone I met up there said the same thing.

Btw, the whales made a showing right out in front of our camp site. We counted at least 3 and they were working the bait just outside of the kelp line. Amazing!!!!
