: Around 5:15 AM, I was sitting inside the surf zone, watching black walls of water coming in one after another. Finally saw in opening and sprinted out during the lull. Bait started out hard to find and after scaring up 3 Spanish Macs, I decided to start fishing and get more bait as needed. Shortly after dropping back the 2nd Mac on the short line, it got picked up by what seemed a smaller WSB. I pulled the hook on the hookset. Around 7 AM, as a swell rolled, I saw what looked like the remnants of a boil and paddled over. I sat on the spot for a minute and was picked up by a nicer fish. Shouted out to the other guys (Matt, Fasha, Croaker Dave and friend) working their way out. Then as my other clicker sang, I yelled that I had a 2nd hanging. I reached back and threw the 2nd rod into gear in the rod holder. The first run sounded like a chainsaw, with the clicker on. As I fought the 1st, the 2nd made a couple more short runs, found some slack and dropped the hook. The fish that I worked was very "user friendly" It steered clear of the kelp and kept the fight on top until the very end. Water visibility was less than 10 feet so when it came to color it was "Holy #$%&" and a swing of the gaff. The fish was 53" long, 45#. I was using a 2/0 livebait hook, 15# Cuda Line (flouro coated mono) and my SL30 and Shimano 7 footer. Belly check showed 1 small squid and over a dozen Chovies.........Andy
