Mark,

I've been thinking about finally getting a handheld, submersable GPS too.
I put in a Ritchie dash mount compass at the foot of my cockpit after getting suddenly caught in a thick mid-morning fog off Corona Del Mar last spring. It was perfectly clear, the fog came in very fast and visability was then zero. Although I knew basically which way to landfall because of the light direction, I could easily have gotten turned around and been wandering at mid-day or after dark. A GPS would have been good to have, but they're only helpful if you have a full navigational mapping version with that location loaded or have previously saved waypoints back to the launch site. Otherwise, your exact position in the fog is kind'a moot.

Jason has the same compass I'm using on his online store. Follow the link.

BTW: Launching at La Jolla Saturday AM with Martin. Hope to see you there and check out your new GPS.

Keith
