: Paddled out at 5 AM. Calm, 2 foot swell at 4 seconds. Water vis was 10 feet, today. Watched the big ol' moon slide out of the sky as I crossed the reserve. Once outside, I saw several airborne Flying Fish. Threw the Iron for awhile, before heading further out. Trolled the Sabiki and picked up 2 Spanish. Packed light again (no bait tank) Put one long and one short. Came upon Chris, an East Coast transplant, who said he had been kayak fishing for 6 months. He had a WSB (short)his first and wanted a picture before release. A few minutes later and I yelled over that I thought I hooked a bigger one. Pulled up a 15-20 #, big enough for dinner. Chris headed west and I decided to soak my baits right there. The Anchovies came up like I have never seen, dozens of spots the size of a baseball diamond. Hooked up again, on a Spanish, did not quite look 28", released. Started throwing the Iron into the middle of the bait, letting it sink underneath. Got a couple Greenbacks, put one out, then a Calico, then another very close to legal WSB, released. Hooked up on the Spanish, again, BIG FISH, heading for the kelp. Ticked the drag a couple times and put my feet out, trying to put on the brakes, but it plowed into the kelp and broke off. Awhile later and the big Greenie goes off. Thought it had to be the size of the first, but it looked an inch or 2 over legal, released. When I got the last one to color it had a 1/2 dozen followers that looked like 4 footers. That made it very hard to leave, but I was late for work as it was. Chris was also on his way in. Asked him how he did and he said he got a 32" WSB. Hit the beach at 10 AM, still barely a breeze. Great day out there. More please.Andy

Way to find those lurkers. Since the bite has been kinda weak lately up here (soon to change any day, lol). I'm going up to Big Sur for a few days. Report calls for wind but I'm hopefull we'll find a couple of windows for fishing.
