: I just moved to Crescent City and am interested in fishing from a kayak. Never done it. I'd apprediate any info. Do you guys fish fresh water too? Can you troll in the rivers for salmon and steelhead? I used to fish a lot as a kid, and am now looking foraomething to help keep fit and do some fishing as well. This looks like the deal. Any pointers, web sites, location of outfitters would be apprecaited. Thanks....

Dave,

You can find some info here in the equipment, tackle n' tips, and rigging sections. Kayak fishing is such an individual sport that we all have our own variations and ways of doing things; the info on the site is fairly general but can be a good starting point. Check out our links section as well. A lot of good information can be obtained by just posting your questions on the message board, checking other boards, and using the search function to check the archives.

We offer some gear through the site: Seats, leashes, compasses and a few other optional gear securing devices. http://www.kayaksportfishing.com/store_index.htm

When you do start, keep safety number one. Personal Floatation Device (PFD), monitor weather reports (only of course launch in safe conditions), keep a means of communication (vhf, cell), proper clothing, pair up with other kayak anglers, etc; The list goes on but I'm sure you get the idea. Research some of the websites, talk to local kayak shops....this will help you get a full idea of what to expect. There may be a licensed guide in your area that can help you get started as well.

Enjoy!

jas
