I've fished the Point Loma kelp out of MB twice this summer. Both trips were productive for calicos and barracuda on the outside of the kelp around Hill St. Good bait, YT are there but no hook ups yet.
If you go take a buddy, its a long haul and does'nt get many kayakkers out there. Definetly trool on the way out of the jetties. I picked up 2 WSB (22" & 27") and 3 short barracuda this past Sunday. Stay to the north jetty, the south jetty has shallow boulders at the end that makes the ride pretty lumpy. Go outside the bouy before heading south, it seems that alot of debris collect between the bouy and the OB pier.
Comming in the MB jetties are at times like looking into the barrel of a shotgun, once the PB'ers hit the open water you have no clue where they are going, some start north then go south, others west then south. Going back into MB between the jetties may not be quite the same as comming into the surf at LJ Shores, be careful.
