: I tested the Malibu Extreme yesterday as well as the Pro Explorer. I like the size and stablity of the Exreme but I did not care too much for the side rails which are there for the optional rudder. I prefer the Explorer's foot wells which are moulded into the yak.To me the sitting position seemed more comfortable in the Explorer,I tried two explorers and they both seemed like a better sitting position, this may be just a simple matter of seat adjustment I don't know? Both kayaks seemed to paddle with the same amount of effort , the Extreme is a bigger kayak however.I don't own a kayak right now,I went to Sunset beach yesterday to try a couple , I have already paddled a Scupper Pro which I think was a wet ride . I did like both the Extreme and the Explorer, but the foot well on the Extreme bothers me, I much prefer the footwell on the Explorer without the rudder rails.I may try a Scupper pro one more time before making a decision. Any comments are welcome.Colin

I have a Pro Explorer and a Scupper TW. I like both the kayaks. The Pro Explorer is much more stable and drier. The Scupper TW is faster and easier to paddle long distances in. I think the Scupper took me more getting use to when I first got it but wouldn't trade it for anything once I got the hang of a touring style SOT (long & narrow). I really enjoy the Pro Explorer for big fish days and days I just want a drier more stable ride. They both serve their purpose and intended application but are totally different boats. For me, it makes a great balance for my arsenal.

Btw, I use a seat for the Pro Explorer called the "Drifter" seat from Surf to Summit. It has a considerable lift in the seat and found that it props me up out of the seatwell, keeping me drier and offering a better posture for paddling. It's not for a touring style yak, but myself and a few other people/clients I've spoken to really enjoy the lift in that boat. You don't neccessarily have to purchase a "Drifter" seat to get that ride (add some lift to your existing seat another way), though that's been the hot ticket for us.
