John.It isn't really "Extra" flotation. The yak has no flotation and will sink if it gets a hole in it! The only thing that will keep your yak afloat if you crash down on a boiler rock,or if MR. Grt White takes a bite,is any flotation you may have put in the yak. I put my rods in the middle,right over the keel. I have the funnoodles istalled in my Fish-n-Dive,and my Pro-2-Tandem. I'd be willing to bet they won't sink,in an emergency!Putting the noodles in place between the scupper shafts and the edge(interopr) of the hull,keeps in place ,balances the yak, and leaves the middle space in the hull free and clear!
