: I rented my first kayak not long ago, brought a rod out with me, and trolled Channel Islands harbor in my jeans. I hooked 1 mackerel that day and knew I was gonna have to buy a Kayak. I liked the fact that I could have my own vessel, and regardless of the size, cost, and lack of a motor, I could still catch all the same fish that I could off a PB or sportboat. Although I have not managed to have much success so far ( a couple of short Halibut, some bass etc.) I am still very enthused about this sport. ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT IT IS THE KAYAK FISHING COMMUNITY. NEVER HAVE I FISHED ANYWHERE, PIER, BOAT, SURF ETC. AND FOUND PEOPLE SO WILLING TO SHARE INFORMATION AND BE HELPFUL AND SUPPORTIVE. THIS IS A FAR, FAR, FAR CRY FROM A SUNDAY ON A SPORTBOAT FIGHTING TO GET A SPOT ON THE STERN, ALMOST IN 'COMPETITION' WITH PEOPLE. I JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE SHARED INFO WITH ME AND I AM SURE WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO. "WE ONLY KEEP WHAT WE HAVE BY GIVING IT AWAY". MANY GOOD DAYS FISHING TO YOU ALLCHARLES

That's a great testimony to the sport! Thanks for sharing that. Feel free to use the board, email me, etc if you have any questions re the sport.

Safety Spew: You may want to trade those jeans in for a good wet suit or paddle pants (some guys prefer waders). I've never tried to swim in jeans but it can't be easy. Be careful and be prepared. You never know when might fall in and/or get separated from your kayak. As usual, always wear your PFD.

Look foward to hearing your fish reports.
