Spent the past 4 days fishing every morning except 1, woke up with a cold Thursday morning, no biggie since NO ONE responded to my message, thank you all so much!..lmao..just joking, not everyone gets a 4 day weekend.

So July 4th I head down to Redondo and launch around 0545hrs, Charlie had the most disgusting minnow size chovie bait I had ever seen!, and I bought some!..hahahaha. I didn't have a hook small enough to use them! So I paddled north of the canyon to about 100ft. I stopped and started bailing out all those small chovies in disgust. Then, I noticed all these 10" spanish macs chasing my chum, so I hook up a sabiki and catch a half dozen of them thinking I can't be the only thing that knows about these macs are around. So I hook up a 4/0 circle hook with a mac and start a slow troll south toward palos verdes. About 10 minutes into a sllllloooowwww quiet paddle , ziiiinnnnnnnggggggg, score!!!, a 31lb WSB. About 10 minutes later I hook up again, but I lose it!!...and that was all she wrote. Sashimi and BBQ seabass belly was added to the family potluck.

Of course, I head back July 5th with DefJack and don’t catch squat!!! July 6th me and Defjack hit the Charthouse area. Of all things I hook a Thresher on my Sabiki rig!!....I had just felt a mac and was about to bring it up when my rod goes bendo, then I see the tail come out of the water, it spins me once in my yak, does a full body jump, (it was tiny – maybe 30 pounds) then my line snaps, Oh wells. I don’t think Jack ever knew what happened, it was a whole 30 seconds probably but that was all I had for the entire day!!! Jack got a short butt and a few sandbass. We had a memorable landing, I don’t know how we pulled it off, but if it wasn’t for Jack showing me how to back into a landing I would’ve gotten flipped for sure….but instead we paddled forward as we saw these waves coming at us and I took them head on with my pro2. Crashed right through them and stayed upright twice!!..wheeew…of course I was soaked afterwards though.

I’ll try and get a pic up of the WSB, but I’m not privy to having a digital cam, all I had was a disposable and I got some pics left to take. Jas? You got those thresher pics yet?

Greg
