I recently purchased a tandem S.O.T kayak. I found it on the net. It seemed like a real good kayak for fishing and diving. When I received it a couple weeks ago, I found that the bottom is all bumpy and has dents. The keel is sunk in the middle about 2” to 2 1/2”inches (when you put a 2x4 from the stern to bow on the keel). I tried leaving it in the sun for a couple of days with a black plastic cover on it. Some dents came out but it still looks pretty messed up. The manufacturer said that this is OK and would not affect the speed or performance of the kayak. I looked over this past week at a lot of kayaks by different manufacturers…NONE of the bottoms looked like this does. If it doesn’t affect the performance, then why do the manufacturers go to such great lengths not to have bumps and dents? Any thoughts?
