Thanks Jason for allowing me to post about our event. Below is the press release we sent out to everyone we could think of. The reason for this post is that in the past every one waited until the last minute to register for the tournament and some didn't get an event shirt because of that.We also have to plan for the amount of food we will need for the bbq and the number of fish trap packs. We had over 125 kayak fishermen on the water last year and hope that this years will bigger and better. We would really like to raise a nice chunk of change for Steve and his family. Don't worry about skill level we will have prizes to win without even catching a fish. We plan on selling raffle tickets for one of the kayaks and the stay at Punta Colorada. We will also be giving away a bunch of other goodies. Please help us out by registering early. This should be a great chance to meet all of our kayak fishing friends. You can make a weekend out of it. Contact me and I can get you a reduced rate on a hotel.

Steve Moyer Benefit Kayak Fishing Tournament

La Jolla Kayak Fishing is hosting a benefit tournament, Aug. 30 at
La Jolla Shores. The tournament is to help fellow kayak fisherman and friend Steve Moyer, who recently was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. “Longboard Steve” and his son Matt have been fixtures in the San Diego kayak fishing scene for several years. Since being diagnosed, Steve has been unable to work and his wife has left her job to be home with him, so we just want to do something to help with some of the bills that insurance doesn’t cover, says spokesman Jim Sammons.
The participants will meet and launch at the boat launch from 4 to 7
a.m. with weigh-in at 2 p.m. at Kellogg Park. The cost of registration is
$35 in advance or $45 the day of the event, with $10 from every entry will
go into the Steve Moyer Fund.
The entry fee includes an event T-shirt and BBQ at the weigh in, and a
tackle pack from Fishtrap lures, as well as entry into the Jackpot and raffle. The
Jackpot will be divided proportionately between the winners. This is a single largest fish tournament so you only need one big fish to win.
Trophies will also be awarded to the top three finishers as well as top female angler, and
best-outfitted kayak, with a special prize for landing a La Jolla Slam:
Yellowtail, White Seabass and Halibut.
Sponsors include Ocean Kayak, who have donated two kayaks as prizes including the yet to be released Prowler their newest fishing kayak, as well as Punta Colorada, Shimano, Seeker, Fishtrap and many others. A-1 bail bonds has donated the use of their fishing cruiser to be stationed off-shore loaded with live bait and drinks for the participants.
The weigh in will be back at Kellogg Park at La Jolla Shores starting at
noon with a deadline of 2:00 pm accompanied by a BBQ and prize give away.

We had over 125 kayaks on the water for our tournament last year; we hope this one is even bigger and better as it is to help our friend.
