Even if you know whom they are from, scan the attached file before opening it.

Someone with too much time on their hands will somehow forge the headers on an email and send it out to an unsuspecting company, webmaster or individual. They can make it look like it's from Kayak Sportfishing, your best friend, State lottery, etc; When you click on the email, it may ask you to save or open a file automatically. I rarely send any files out to anyone. I never send attached files to people I don't regularly correspond with. I certainly don't send files which prompt a save/open box. If you were to accidentally push "enter" at that point, it would most likely save the file to your hard drive and infect it.

I've also been on the receiving end of these forged header emails with a virus attached. The email looks like it's from another kayak or kayak fishing related web site. It's so routine now that I don't ever give any credit to the headers when the email has a virus attached.

I've spoken to a couple webmasters of kayak fishing related sites. Over the years, they have experienced the same kind of senseless attempts of sabotage.

Btw, I've checked the file extensions of some of these attachments. They're usually 2 files, one's a ".exe" and the other is a ".txt" file. It's the ".exe" file that does the damage.
