: hey guys,I am going to sell my beloved 4 runner and now I need to haul my kayak on my honda accord. Anyone ever use the Riverside Non skid foam kayak carriers or anything like that? Mainly I dont want my scupper classic fallling on the freeway. I also don't want to end up with dents from the weight and tons of scratches on my car! It's pretty cheap but man it sure looks scary! Any advice would be appreciated!

I have a fairly new Honda Accord Sedan. I wish I bought these racks the same day I bought the car.

I did some research for a week or so before going with Yakima racks. It can get a little confusing because everything is purchased individually:
Q Towers, Bars, Locks and kayak mounting accessory.

I first looked at the mako saddles. They were pricey. Just to secure one kayak you have to come up with an additional $100+ per yak on top of the $220+ for the bars, locks and q towers. I also wasn't as stoked about having the kayaks facing upright. I prefer having the kayaks upside down. It's more aerodynamic. Since there aren't any gutters on the car for the q towers to mount to, I needed to minimize the wind resistance as much as possible. The gunwhale brackets are marketed as being for canoes but they work very well with kayaks. A set of 4 retails for around $60 but I think they now come with straps (when I purchased mine, they cost less but they didn't come with straps). I use ratchet straps (bought a set of 4 from OSH for $18).
I also purchased oversized bars so I can take 2 kayaks (thanks for the advice from Steve A). The bars extend out over the roof a few inches but it was the only way I could put 2 kayaks on the racks. The automated Yakima rack selector will suggest the 48" bars, not wide enough for 2 sit on tops. I got the 66" bars. Use caution when entering car, lol. A tie down the stern and bow and we're ready to go fishn.

Good luck!
