On the water at 5:30 AM. Light offshore breeze with 1-2 footers at the launch. Stopped and dropped my way from the buoy to the point in search of bait. When I finally found it, I found plenty in all shapes and sizes. Bait tank loaded, I put out a Greenback on one side and a Spanish Mac on the other and headed west. I hit a spot of bigger Barracuda. The Greenback was slashed pretty good, but still alive, so I threw it back out. One other time I found a WSB picking off wounded bait under the Barracuda. Sure enough the tore up Mac gets picked up. Put it in gear and it swings me around. Had the feel of a bigger WSB, making it's first run just below the surface then the second run going deep. 10 minutes in, following a very hard run, the line goes slack. Donnie saw the whole thing. I said "it broke me off" and he says "no, there it is" I turn around to see a big dog with my 30-40# WSB in his mouth. I didn't want to make it easy for him, so I paddled after him. Every time I would get close he would pull the fish under. An hour later he was still eating with a flock of Gulls overhead. Shortly after saw a 15# YT landed. Heard of quite a few baits picked up and dropped, only to pull in the dead bait with the YT signiture, crushed head. Matt, (MOYER THE FISH DESTROYER) I was fishing alongside caught and released a 32" WSB, probably 10-12#. Donnie was on his way in, just outside the reserve and picked up this monster 53" WSB on a flylined Spanish Mac. A couple of the guys had trouble making bait and decided to troll the plugs inside the point for the T Shark.Greg (Fish Head) had a couple hookups Al,(YakAtak) hooked 4 and landed one, 50# Thresher on a Yozuri Hydromag. Green water, 10 foot visibility, sunny with a light breeze all morning. 1/2 dozen yaks and 1/2 dozen skiffs, love those weekdays. The perfect kind of morning...........................Just take out the dog.
Andy
