: I'll let ya know what happens and if it is successful. The instructions I have from Humminbird don't indicate that I need to cut a hole in the hull's bottom - I hope I'm not misunderstanding them. I would definitely be wary of doing that. They seem to say that if you make sure that the epoxy they provide has no bubbles in it when the puck is in place, it should work fine firing right through the epoxy and the plastic of the hull. That's why I am going to try that route, seem like if it doesn't woork, the worst case is that I have a wasted puck stuck to the inside of my kayak. I have all the transom mount parts as well as another puck if it doesn't work - I'm just concerned about knockingthe puck off too often if externally mounted. Thanks for the reply.

I glue a few pieces of foam (similar to pool noodle)- one just 2" in front of the transducer and one 2" behind it. I just started using the Marine Goop everyone was talking about. I like it, though I haven't used it on the transducer yet. I will the next time but I have had good success with 2 part epoxy. If you can find slow cure that would be the best. I usually am only able to find the 5 min which has worked for me so far. Just be sure to mix it well. As your pressing down, slowly turn the transducer a few degrees to the left and a few to the right..back and forth until you can't push it down anymore (center it and point it straight). Place something on top of it and let it set for a day.

Ya, I'd say cutting a whole in the bottom would be a bad idea.
