Anybody ever hear the story of the kayak fisherman up here in Alaska who hooked a halibut a couple of years ago... and got towed 5 miles out into open ocean and had to be rescued by the Coast Guard??
He didn't have a knife (to cut the line) and didn't want to drop his expensive rod, so he just held on, hoping the fish would tire. By the time it did, he got towed to an area where the currents were pushing him out to sea faster than he could paddle back.
If you are going to fish for halibut, be prepared for hooking a fish that is too big to land. Bring a knife !!
