Perhaps the best launch in Southern California is the launch at La Jolla Shores. Go to Jim S.'s site to see a map. Surf is smaller there than anywhere else and you can drive up on the beach at the boat launch to drop and retrieve your kayak, then park on the streets.
It does get crowded during the summer, though.
If Bay launches are your interest, there's a number of sites (San Diego Bay--Tidelands, Lawrence Street, J St.- Chula Vista, Orange Ave.- Coronado Island, Mission Bay-- Jetty Park/Bay Side, at the end of Mission Beach, Allen's, SD Sailing Center, the boat launches in the west end of the bay).
For skills and ocean fishing, consider spending some $$ and taking a course from Jim Sammons, or hook up with one of us by email.
