: 3 kayakers enter and 1 returns. This article has some useful info on cold water conditions. They have a good weather index to follow for those that play in cold water.

Re: I read the article and I would recommend it as good information for any kayaker to read. I think that fisherman, sea kayakerss, recreationalists, or white water paddlers would all stand to benifit from this information.

I once read somewhere that most kayak deaths are listed as drownings. However given the amount of time that most victims are exposed to the water and the conditions they say it's more likely that the majority of kayak deaths are actually caused by hyperthermia. There have been many victims who have drown with their life jackets on and those cases are listed as hyperthermia. It was suggested that many of the deaths may have been avoided had the paddler been more well suited for the water tempratures. I know that hyperthermia is possible in our local waters depending on duration of exposure to the and time of year (water temp).

I recall last year there was a story in the news about the Coast Guard rescueing some divers who had been missing localy. The press also had mentioned that if the divers were not wearing wet suits they would have died from hyperthermia.

I believe you can never be too prepaired. It's not hard to venture out not realizing a poor decision or careless mistake which can cause us to become at one with the deep blue sea in an instant. I hope none of us ever have meet that fate, be safe guys. See you on the water.
