: : Best reference on the web at this link:http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/Wear/wearindex.htmlAlso there was just a discussion at:http://www.yakfishing.com/The bottom line is that the best system is dry breathable waders for lower body up to the chest. For the upper body anything from a t-shirt to a windbreaker up to a dry-top can be worn depending on how cold it is and if you are positive you will be dumped into overhead booming surf and have to swim for it, possibly for a long time.In that case waders and a dry top are the gold standard, but probably overkill here.Wetsuits are OK, but are not warm enough out of water, except for specialized ones, and are uncomfortable. Most are also not warm enough for an extended stay in very cold water, but in Southern California you can get by.Waders do not hamper your mobility in or out of the water so that is not a consideration.quietman Wetsuits aren't warm out of water? That all depends on how thick the wetsuit is. Waders are not the norm in moving waters. They suit their purpose out on the lake or on the flats. Someone else pointed out recently that the reason they're popular on the East is because they will sometimes get out and fish the flats. Unless you're lake fishing or flats fishing, I would go another route. Why someone would want to promote a hazard like wearing waders in the Pacific I have no idea. Play it safe and wear what most of the veterans are wearing in your area. That's what I did.-Jackyak
RE: I have to agree with you about waders/ocean, but the usage is probably from the people that migrated from float-tubes. The folks on the east coast and the southern coast like to wade around with their kayaks anchored somehow.
