Launched today w/ Ocean Hunter. Clear skies but much more windy than we thought it was going to be. The reefs didn't pay off too much for us today. A bunch of Sandies bit the bullet, or should I say bit the plastic for the both of us. A bunch of Sandies 2-6 lbs and one Johnny bass.
The Gate is closed because beach maintenance people are planning to due a major fix up to the stair case and the surrounding access area. They boarded the gate up on us while we were out there. They sealed it a little more(plywood, chains, etc;) because they said it's unsafe. Lucky us the guy was still there. He took the board off, unlocked the gate, and let us up. He filled us in on the "plan".
It was pointed out to us that is has been declared an "unsafe" beach access. It's unfortunate, but kinda true. There are areas that need fencing or walling. Without that, little kids can fall (about a 8-10ft drop).
Unfortunately, the guy that worked for the beaches said there was no set time table for completion. ESCONDIDO IS CLOSED FOR AN UNDETERMINED DURATION!!!
Maybe some pressure needs to be applied in order for them to not drag their feet fixing it.
