On the way back it can save some time. That whole area on the 5 by El Toro/Capistrano can get really congested. I was driving back from La Jolla at 4:00pm back in September and I was on 3 hours sleep and a full day in the cove and I would have never made it back home without the Toll Road. It might even be shorter.
