: Launched early through a high tide and 2 to 3 foot wind waves.I was making bait (Spanish Mack) out at the point when a whale startled me. In past years the whales have always stayed in deep water and far away from the kelp. I’m not totally convinced that whales are these gentle creatures that would alter their coarse so as not to bump into a kayak. Instead I kind of see them as sea elephants. Big lumbering mammals that go where ever they want to.While fishing on the bottom in 120’ with a 6” root beer colored scampi I hoisted up a red that was big enough to feed my whole family. I wouldn’t mind releasing them so much if they would at least put up a decent fight ;-) lolo.Around 9:am the wind stopped and the sunglasses came out. Now it was easier to hear and see the whales. I saw more whales today than I can ever remember seeing before. Eight of the whales I saw were spouting and one flipped me the tail. That was the first whale tail I’ve ever seen in the wild and it put every thing into perspective, (size wise) because normally when the whales come up it’s just a dark barnacle covered hump.I made an easy landing at low tide.· On the water from 6:30 am to 11:30 am· Overcast and then sunny· Off shore breeze until 9am· Released a very large red· 6” Spanish mackerel (bait)· (12) Whales (8) spouting John
