You might try the kelp beds off of the cove at Montano de Oro state park.Go straight out and avoid the crashing surf on either side of the cove,go out to the kelp.I used squid for bait and caught some nice rockfish.The gopher cod,lingcod,and such hang out there.Because of the heavy kelp,I don't think the bigger boats venture too often into the tangled kelp,for a kayak,it is foolsplay.Scott Shaw
