: Waders rock, all the time, anywhere. Except maybe if you knew for SURE that you were going in, but then what the heck are you thinking? But not the nasty neoprene ones! Talke 'em back if you can, they aren't even being manufactured anymore by the "biggies" Get the lightweight, breathable ones. Sweet! Dry, warm, comfy, and with a paddle jacket, or any waterproof top you can have waves break over your head, and stay bone-dry all day. That's what the east coast guys wear when the waves are BIG the wind is Howling, the water is 45* and the air is freezing. Our kayak conditions are girly-man at worst compared to thiers, and they wear waders...quietman

From the guys I've spoken to from the East Coast, they don't contend with the surf we do. You also have to think about the fact that there isn't a huge surfing movement there. There's good reason for that. If waders are bigger there it could be because they tend to "wade" on the flats. They get out of their kayak and fish the shallow flats. If you get launched from your kayak, I would think waders would make it difficult for swimming back to. I love paddle pants and jackets but the reality is if they fill up, regardless if you have bouyancy, mobility is extremely tough. On the good surf days, it's safer to go the wetsuit route in my opinion. Though the way they're making paddle pants and paddle jackets these days, a lot of the water is kept out. I think you'd agree that "going in" is a reality that everyone should accept and be prepared to deal with.
