I like using combos of shrimp flies and squid strips on a double dropper loop setup. A shrimp fly on the lower dropper loop(mix it up, sometimes the top) and a size 1 hook w/ 3 or 4 thin strips of squid layered one on top of the other. Allows for KILLER fluttering action. I usually put one squid strip on the shrimp fly.
Swivel clasp on the bottom connected to a torpedo. When you're drifting on the reefs, you'll need at least a 4oz all the way up to 10oz; just depends on fast you're moving. You have to have the bait on the bottom. Sometimes, when the lings are bitting, I put a jig on the bottom instead of the torpedo. I usually use a white Iron Man 5 for that. Other colors , some darker ones, work really well too. Somtimes a whole squid pinned to the iron is a good thing.
