If you can afford it go with a full size 2wd truck with an extended cab. You will have room enough for the wife and kids and you'll be able to haul your yaks with no problem. I have a 1993 F 150 Super Cab short bed that works great for hauling my yak and my family. A brand new truck is nice but not necessary.
