I was using e 5 1/2" silver and blue rebel spoonbill deep diving lure. It is important to tie it on using a Rapala or loop knot. That knot seems to give a plug more action. I trolled with it about 50 - 75 ft behind my kayak. I have a Scotty rod holder mounted just in front of my fishfinder. When you are trolling it is nice to have the rod in front of you so you can tell when you get a strike alot easier. with a 7' rod it doesn't get in the way when you are paddeling.
